Ladles of Love breaks Guinness World Record
CCPB was proud to have partnered with Ladles of Love to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest line of canned foods. The record-breaking campaign took place on Sunday, 29 August at the V&A Waterfront. The event would have taken place on #MandelaDay on 18 July and was postponed to the end of August due to recent Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Ladles of Love surpassed their initial target of 90 000 cans creating a 6.7km line with a total of 90 450 cans, beating the current Canadian record of 3.28km with 44 966 cans. The CCPB Special Events team helped set up for this event by providing logistics support and refreshments on the day for volunteers participating in this incredible initiative. In addition, we also donated 2000 cans of food towards the Guinness World Record campaign. This is over and above the donation of canned foods by our Special Events team for #MandelaDay.
CCPB has been supporting Ladles of Love over the past 15 months as part of our Covid-19 community support. The organisation provides over 300,000 meals to the less fortunate every week. We continue our support with weekly donations of bottled Relief Water and a monthly donation towards purchasing ingredients for food preparation.
All canned foods donated in support of the record-breaking campaign will be distributed to the Ladles of Love soup kitchens around the Western Cape, to feed the many thousands in need of a warm and nutritious meal.
